Friday Tip

Do you ever put a load of clothes in the washer on Tuesday and then find it the following Friday when it smells like something crawled in the washer and died?

Yeah, me too.

Well, now instead of rewashing those clothes once (or even twice) and still having them smell like mold, you can put 1/2 to 1 cup of ammonia in the water with the clothes and all nasty smells disappear.  I've actually taken to putting it in my normal washes of clothes as well and it's amazing how it gets rid of little boy smells.  I only use 1/4 cup if I'm adding it as well as normal detergent to the wash.

It is also great at removing tough stains (ie, grass stains, pit stains, blood)

Happy Washing!

Some fun washing machines for you:

Seriously, who wouldn't want this?

Human Washing Machine -- this is for real folks.  Unveiled at the 1970 worlds fair in Japan.

 Have a nice weekend!

  1. I don't know if this will clash with ammonia, but I put vinegar in my color wash because it helps colors not to fade, and it neutralizes urine. Yep, my kids are 8 and 6, but pee is still everywhere!

P.S. Gorgeous pictures of your kids. :)

  2. I need this tip. Eric is always on mildew alert (because he KNOWS I tend to leave the wet laundry sitting too long...). I've been using Oxiclean to nuke the mildew...but I like this ammonia idea a lot!! Thanks!
